Dog Health Care in St. Paul, MN

Man's best friend deserves a happy, long life without persistent medical issues. Bring your pet to Highland Animal Hospital for comprehensive dog health care in St. Paul, MN. Over the course of 48 years, we have helped canines throughout the areas enjoy healthy lives. From elderly dogs requiring arthritis treatments to new puppies that need spaying and neutering, it is our pleasure to help every canine brought to our dog care clinic.

Inside the Clinic:

One of our skilled veterinarians will thoroughly access your dog via a physical exam consisting of vital checks of eyes, ears, respiratory and cardiac condition, body composition, and oral health, along with other comprehensive observations that indicate sickness and health.

After the exam, our veterinarian team can administer annual vaccinations to ensure your pet stays protected from common, highly transmissible diseases. Vaccines are split up into recommendations as core and non-core vaccines. Core vaccines are recommended for all dogs and non-core are lifestyle vaccines that are recommended depending on your dog’s type of activities. For canines, our core vaccines consist of Canine Distemper (DHLPP-C), Bordetella, and Rabies. Our non-core vaccines include Lyme and K-9 Influenza.

The physical assessment gives us clues as to what might be going on with your pet, but to truly understand the not-so-visible health of your pet, we recommend and offer annual bloodwork at a discounted price in conjunction with a yearly heartworm test to make sure your dog is on track to be their healthiest self.

Outside the Clinic:

While we love to see you and your pet for your annual wellness exam, there are limitations to what we can do to keep your pet healthy throughout the year, outside of our care. However, there are many ways that pet owners can keep their furry companions happy and healthy at home with the tools that we provide. The biggest tool at our disposal to keep your dog healthy year-round are preventatives. We are proud to offer the take-home parasite preventatives, Heartgard and Nexgard.

In addition to preventatives, you can keep your pet healthy year-round through our in-house pharmacy with preventatives including joint supplements, allergy medications, and vitamins, along with a wide range of other medications to treat your dog’s individual needs.

Regular teeth brushing is also highly recommended to prevent the buildup of tarter which can lead to heart and kidney disease, anorexia, and lethargy. This is an easy way to prevent long-term issues and can even turn into an enjoyable habit at home for both you and your dog! Routine dental cleanings are also recommended for your dog in the presentation of tarter and is a service that we offer at our clinic.

A Dog Care Clinic You Can Rely On

Is your dog acting strange? If your dog's recent behavior or symptoms have got you stumped, schedule an appointment with our dog care clinic. We take the time to thoroughly evaluate your pet's needs to ensure we provide the proper diagnosis and subsequent treatment. Because of our decades of experience, we have learned how to identify even the most subtle symptoms.

The dedication we have to local pet owners and their dogs comes from our love of all canines. That is why we have equipped our staff with everything they need to provide comprehensive dog veterinary care. Whether your pet has poor dental health causing bad breath or behavioral problems that can be mitigated with neutering, our team is your number one choice.

A Discerning Dog Care Center of Quality

In many cases, some dog care centers take a cookie-cutter approach to diagnosing pets rather than an individualistic one. At our clinic, our vets take the time to thoroughly assess every symptom and aspect of your dog's background to ensure a proper diagnosis is made.

Your dog can't speak for itself, but we can accurately determine the issue based on its recent behavior, symptoms, and medical history. We effectively identify where its health problem lies. In addition, we help eliminate problems before they start with preventative services and procedures such as spaying, neutering, and vaccinations.
